Happy New Year!!!

I just want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. 2011 was a great year and I met so many of the goals I had set out for myself. Mainly:

1. I was published in both the fPOE book Still and Issue 3 of Method Press

2. I increased both my views and sales on Etsy

3. I had several photo sessions for portraits, pets as well as some model shoots.

My goals for 2012, aside from continuing forward are more photography related themselves. I have spent so much time marketing and spreading the word I feel like I hardly photograph any more, unless it is photographing new photo pendants. So my goals for 2012 are:

1. To work with my film camera and do some black and white darkroom developing

2. To network locally by joining the local art league and participating in their exhibits

3. Complete a photo project that ends in a cohesive grouping of photographs that I can submit for exhibits and make into a book.

I also have a lot of exciting events coming up such as the luxury gift lounges preceding both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards sponsored by GBK Productions. Joining The Artisan Group has been one of the best things I did in 2011.

I am looking forward to 2012 and wish everyone the best in all of their endeavors.

Home from my holiday an excited to share more on my Golden Globes and Academy Awards gift lounge participation

I am finally home from a whirlwind trip to Texas and back. We drove down to Dallas to see the Cowboys play the Eagles on Christmas Eve. Then, it was off to my in laws house for Christmas. It was nice to visit but we only had one day to visit before the long drive back to Illinois.

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. I am now thinking about the New Year and what it will bring. I have a lot of exciting things going on with The Shutterbug Eye. As a member of The Artisan Group I have business cards included in swag bags that will be distributed at a luxury gift lounge sponsored by GBK Productions preceding the Golden Globes in January. I am even more excited about the gifts of my work that will be included in the swag bags gifted at GBK's Academy Awards Gift Lounge in February. I am including one of four photo pendants in each bag. Below is a close-up photo of one of the pendants, a quick picture of all four and a photo of the article my local paper ran about me and my participation.

The amount of work the team puts in to prepare this magazine is incredible and they are all so talented.

I am backing Method Press through their Kickstarter campaign because slowly it seems that print is dying in favor of digital, that big corporate is having more control crowding out small independent. This magazine keeps alive the print medium and brings to life artists and projects that might never be found or shared otherwise. Autumns Last Color

I took lots of pictures this weekend. I photographed the last colors of autumn, took some still life shots of unique interesting bottles and photographed and edited a mustache series in honor of Movember and men's health awareness. I'll be sharing these photos this week.

Today, I'm sharing the last colors of autumn. I was worried the leaves would be all gone but there was still some beautiful golds.

The lesson of the day was shoes are hard to break when that is your goal. I wanted the heel totally broken, snapped, and we could not do it. I'll post some outtakes of us trying. The best part was the look my model got from passers by as she walked through the park with a hammer.

I have had a great week. Yesterday I was featured in The Naperville Sun's Women's section of the Sunday paper. I posted a small, poorly shot photo of it to the left. I have a nice screen print also from the web version that published on Friday. See the article here.

I was also at the first all jewelry show held at Cantigny Park yesterday. It was a great opportunity to meet people and network and sell some of my photo jewelry and I even bought some jewelry for myself. We all need a early Christmas gift, right?

I took a few quick shots of my modest table and thought I'd share.

I had rings, earrings, bottlecap pendants, resin pendants, so much more than is shown here. I think if I was to do this again, I'd elaborate and add to my table display. Make things taller and make it more flashy with plants, etc. But I had a great time and met lots of people!

Or my head I should say. I've been so busy lately I completely forgot my wedding anniversary yesterday. That's ok though, so did my husband.

My jewelry show prep is almost finished. I have just the smallest amount of work left and I will be finished and ready for the show. Whew.

On to the next challenge, which will likely be Oscars gift bag prep for The Artisan Group. Also, check out my last post because they are doing a huge giveaway. All of the links are in that post.

My last bit of news is I had a great model shoot yesterday and by weeks end, if not sooner, I should have those photos ready to share.

2012 Photography Calendars

I have been busy stocking up for the holiday season. One of my recent additions is a calendar section. I have 4 calendars listed and all are 5x7 unbound fine art photography sheets. The images are 5x5 and when the month is over you can cut the bottom off and be left with a 5x5 print.

Here are three of them. I will share the rose one on Wednesday with other rose photos and I have one more I want to make that is not complete. That is my city and town (urban and decay) photos. With that I think I should have a good variety and something for everyone.

The fPOE book "Still: The Art of Living"

The Female Photographers of Etsy published the book Still The Art of Living this year. I'm proud to say that I contributed 2 images to this book. Since my images do not show in the preview, I took a couple quick photos to share and give you a preview. The book is available on Blurb and comes in both soft cover and hard cover. It is truly a beautiful book and features many very talented photographers including Irene Suchocki, Elle Moss and so many more.

Cantigny set the stage for autumn

Yesterday I went to Cantigny to drop off some photo pendant necklaces I made. The gardens at Cantigny provide me with one of my biggest sources of inspiration. While walking around today, the first thing I noticed were the wonderful Autumn decorations, pumkins and scarecrows. So I photographed them today as a change of pace and am sharing them here in today's blog.

Fantastikal Faieries

So I went to the Bristol Renaissance Faire on Sunday for the first time. Yep, I'd never gone which amazes even me as it's not really that far. Here are two of the Fantastikal Fairies that were there. They would only interact with children and could not see adults and it was fun to watch them interact with the children.

There were so many shows and interesting people that I will share more in future posts. There was everything from fire eating to acrobatics, a drum jam and so many people dressed in costumes.

I just wanted to share a recent self portrait photo I have edited a few ways.

Here is the full version. To be honest, my hair was the inspiration. I looked in the mirror and thought "my hair looks cute and there is some nice light coming through the window." The camera was set up so fast.

I also edited it square and put it in as my profile pic in a few places. It won't replace my masked shot but since I'm always creating new images I struggle with keeping the same profile pic.

That is my latest. I have had a great week and have many projects in the works. I hope they all work out so I can share them.

New York, the quick summary

New York bound and lots of Etsy updates

I am going to New York City for a long weekend with the family and we leave tomorrow. I'm very excited and I made sure to pack both my digital camera with an extra lens AND the film camera because you can never have too many cameras on you.

I have also been very busy at my Etsy shop and have added several new prints, including some large ones such as the following.

I also added a few normal sized prints that I thought I'd share.

I also have new products in the works. I will be listing some thematic 4 packs of smaller prints in the near future. I also made my first batch of photo pendants. They are 1 inch by 1 inch pendants and set in either antiqued gold, silver or copper pendants. A protective resin coating gives them a smooth surface. I will list these pendants in my store in the second half of next week. I only have 7 to list so if you like them, don't wait to buy as it may be gone when you come back. So, I've not been posting much, but I have been busy. I have been working on a new project and if it all goes well I should be ready to unveil it next week before I leave for a short, but needed vacation.

As you may have seen from my last post, or if you follow me on Facebook or Etsy that I redid my look with a new banner, new icon and all around new look. You can also see my new look on my website.

I have been adding more variety to my Etsy store. Now, in addition to dreamy nature shots, you can find more urban decay and I've added an entire section for macabre, which should be fun as Halloween approaches. I know, it's still July, but time is moving fast.

I am so excited to share the news that the latest collaboration of the Female Photographers on Etsy (fPOE), a book published through Blurb titled "Still: the art of living" is now published and available for purchase.

I make no money from the book but am am so proud to say I have two photos included in it, along with so many talented photographers. This photo, "The Lookout" is one of the two photos of mine in the book.

Happy Friday everyone. I've been super busy with a few things these days.

First I have been working on submitting work to different publications and contests. I currently have 10 photos in the National Wildlife Federations contest. I am preparing to send 15 photos to Aperture Foundation this weekend for their annual contest and then I have 12 other photos that I'm submitting to SHOTS for their next issue. Stay posted for updates on how this all turns out.

Second, I've been reworking my Etsy store The Shutterbug Eye which is proving to be a bigger task than I ever imagined. In addition to the boring stuff like rewriting titles and descriptions for google seo, I've been adding new photos and more variety. If things pan out well, I hope to even have something really different for my shop by Christmas time. If that interests you, visit my shop and consider purchasing a print. I plan to reinvest any money I make in the the new product. If I can't raise the funds, then I will have to wait till 2012 for this. Either way, I'm excited.

This is a close-up portrait of a cute dog I met on the Naperville Riverwalk. It's funny, I am scared to ask strangers on the street if I can take their photograph, but I have no problem asking if I can photograph their dog. This was one of those opportunities.
